As some of you know, our only Granddaughter Charis and husband Ben have been expecting their first baby; needless to say, great grandma and grandpa (and others) have been waiting somewhat “impatiently” for this special event; as providence would have it, my dear wife contacted the Flu, causing breathing problems and sending her to the hospital. She’s been “mending” for 4 days, hopefully coming home tomorrow; however, that hasn’t stopped us from prayerfully huddling together in that isolated hospital room awaiting the “baby news.” Guess what? The call came this morning from my daughter Deb announcing the new arrival of a “perfect” 7lb. 11oz girl named Theodora Charis Haines. “Theodora” literally means “a gift from God” which explains the attitude and gratitude of her parents.
Chris’ hospital stay has facilitated an unbelievable “stream” of sharing God’s loving grace with others. One day a whole class of YSU nursing students “invaded” our floor for “hands on” training. Wow! I had spontaneous sessions with 5 or 6 at a time huddled in the hall, sharing God’s Word! I was impressed with their openness to the Bible. They have witnessed firsthand the tragedy of opioid overdose and suicides, etc. which has convinced them that people have needs beyond medical treatment.
Something’s going on in our country that’s sparking spiritual hunger. I sense a new freedom to share Christ with people; hopefully it’s a move of God whereby souls are increasingly getting serious about their eternal destiny. We need to “make hay while the sun shines…for surely, the night’s coming when no man can work.”
Thank you for standing with us in prayer. In the morning we graduate another student from the Mission Academy. He has a desire to serve the Lord, and is thankful for the opportunity to study with us. We’ve tried not only to teach the Word of God, but to demonstrate the ways of God. Chris and I are grateful for the great privilege to let our “light shine” in this dark place at this stage of our lives. We love each of you and thank God for our labors together in the Gospel of God’s Grace. PTL!
Praying for God’s Blessing on each of you,
Bill & Chris
